Bruce Hansen writes: This is the Electro Magnet Loader built from a 1950 #12 1/2 set. The model picks up steel with the electromagnet and dumps it on the opposite side of the model. The model uses a P55 motor. A control box has two momentary switches for controlling the direction of the motor. The model is started with the magnet at its bottom position.
The motor winds up the string and the electromagnet raises. The electromagnet is wired directly to the motor so it’s under power only when the motor is running. The magnet raises until it bottoms out on the trolley. At this point, the trolley starts to travel up the ramp into the tower. You release the control button when the trolley reaches the top of the ramp which stops the motor and un-powers the magnet. The steel load drops down a ramp, hits a backstop, and reverses travel to the outlet ramp.
