good day to all newbie question here. Have had a lifelong love of erector sets since my first one I got for Christmas as a kid but am fairly new to collecting. I am slowly working on building a modest collection but have a lot of “loose” parts to “play” with my question is what is the best way to clean all the parts? unless I am going to use them for a specific build I will not repaint them as I prefer to keep things as original as possible but I would like to get everything as clean and pristine as possible. any and all advice will be well received and appreciated
    Thank You All

I’m new to the group and had the same question. I restore vintage garden tractors & often use vinegar to remove surface rust & thought this might be a good option for the erector sets. I keep a small plastic tub with a lid out in the garage and was going to try it. It is best to let it soak overnight and rinse well under running water, you have to physically wipe the rust off with a rag, if you let it dry, you have to start over. Now to keep it from rusting again, I was thinking about a spray wax.

Philip and Shannon, There is an excellent facebook group called AC Gilbert Erector restorations. It goes in depth on the questions you ask. Enjoy! -Sean
